Lions Quest
Building a new SEL program from the ground up with Lions Club International.
Project overview
Lions Quest is an evidence-based, school and community program developed by Lions Clubs International Foundation that focuses on social and emotional learning (SEL), positive youth development, and character education.
With the Lions Quest team, 3C Institute worked to reimagine the program content to be more interactive, engaging, student-led, and activity based. We also worked to build this new program to be more user-friendly for the mass market and allow easier implementation of Lions Quest in wider settings.
My role
As the art director for this project, I led the visual direction for the Lions Quest program:
- Develop unique visual identities for each grade band using the existing Lions Club branding as the foundation
- Build Powerpoint templates for each grade band that will be used to create lesson content
- Create templates for interactive lesson content
- Film live narrators and produce voice over audio from voice actors
- Produce video and animated content for lessons and professional development
- Create printable lesson resources
- Mock up teacher access flows for the platform and user dashboards for each grade band

Development process
Visual identity
Lions Quest has established logos and colors as a program of Lions Club International Foundation. However, the Lions Quest team did not want the grade band visuals to be limited what was already established. With this in mind I developed a new style guide for the Lions Quest grade bands using colors from the established style guide while also bringing new colors to appeal to the audiences.
Styleguides
For each grade band style guide I included the new color palettes, typography, character styles, iconography, and some examples of how graphics, text, and images could be used for lesson content.

Course graphics
After establishing the visual identity for each grade band, I created templates for the lesson content.
Powerpoint templates
The primary piece of the lesson, the powerpoint templates would be used to build out each slide of the lesson content. Due the the sheer number of units and lessons within this program, I needed to develop the powerpoint templates to allow for use to scale the creation of the lesson slides to more team members while still maintaining a consistent visual identity.
To achieve this I created a large library of templates for each grade band trying to account for any combination of content on screen. If new content was introduced that didn’t have an appropriate template, I would develop a new template and add it to the master file.

Interactive exercises
As with the powerpoint templates, I also created photoshop templates for interactive exercises such as drag and drops, branching menus, and survey questions.
Unit and Lesson videos
Video content was also included in the lessons. I would create art notes for those portions of the lesson scripts and create storyboards for the videos.
Here is a collection of videos created for Lions Quest lessons.
Professional development videos
Professional development videos were also produced to help those would would be presenting Lions Quest and Anti-Bullying content.
Printable resources
We developed a large library of printable resources that went along with the lesson content including lesson guides, card games, classroom posters, and handouts.

UX/UI
I developed mockups for the Lions Quest program as it appears in an online platform. This included user dashboards for the specific grade bands and the teacher access flow.
